Page Mill Road In The Spring— Or What To Do When The Trails Are Too Wet

With the recent rains, the trails are still pretty muddy. So what's a mountain biker to do? Easy. Put on some slick tires and hit the road. The sun was out (finally), so I headed up the paved Page Mill Road.

Page Mill Road is a narrow, twisting road that leads from Palo Alto, climbs the Santa Cruz Mountains, to Skyline Road. It was originally a logging road that was built in a hurry, so it has some interesting grades.

Any way, here are some spring photos to take away the winter chill:

• Rolling green foothills on Arastradero Road
• Mountain views, still headed towards Page Mill Road
• Shady, grassy, moss covered, slippery, Page Mill bike path
• Foothills Park, Windy Hill in the distance
• I said it was twisty
• After the "Gate 3" hairpin, it really starts getting steep
• Steep section hiding around the corner, Monte Bello Preserve
• The muddy destination, Skyline Road
• Pretty views on the way down
